MedicalTOONS.com

This site  The Web

Welcome to my waiting room: this is MedicalTOONS.com, home of the cartoons
(and art and sundries) of John Capps, MD.
Who am I?  A general Internist specializing weight loss and cosmetic procedures
in Gastonia, NC, and Rock Hill, SC.  In addition to medicine some years
ago I started pursuing an interesting endeavor on teaching myself drawing
and later oil painting.  That led into professional cartooning for the few
medical newspapers, newsjournals and journals that still have the intelligence
to use cartoons.  Also, I greatly enjoy portrait painting/sketching and human
nude figure painting...go figure.
This site had been down for WAY too long due to my "Cancer
Year" of Oct.06-Oct.07, BUT it was the highly treatable
testicular cancer, and I'm doing great. I've written more on this
on another page on this site.

THERE AND BACK AGAIN: me and testicular cancer

MY CARTOONS:  These two above are a couple of the first that I  was able to sell.
ONE GOAL OF THIS SITE: I am interested in selling cartoons, especially to lecturers. I realize that physician-speakers are not likely to be as able to pay as much for cartoons as publications, however, I have targeted this market for two reasons. One reason is simply a pet peeve of mine when I'm in the audience for a lecture (often sponsored by a drug-company and so the speaker is paid) and a cartoon is used without permission.  How do I know it was WITHOUT permission?  Well, "used by permission" should have been clearly typed at margin or bottom,  but besides that you could tell that these were poor photocopies, often hard to see.  If the lecturer had seen a cartoon he liked once, written and asked or bought permission to re-use the work, then a much clearer copy, with appropriate citation.  Another reason I'm targeting cartoons to lecture use is that I feel I can do a much better job, even if need be ad hoc, than most of cartoons I see used.  I DO feel cartoons are a great way to start and end a medical talk, and believe with my background in general medicine I can work with any speaker or drug company and with reasonable rates.
To see more of my Medical Cartoons and ideas on Cartoons for Medical Talks ....stay tuned...
