What Energy Drinks Do to YouEnergy drinks are known for boosting your overall mental and physical performance temporarily. These drinks contain one significant stimulant that is a universal component of all energy drinks: caffeine. Some energy drinks might be full of plant-based stimulants, like guarana and ginseng. According to a study conducted in 2013, energy drinks change the heart’s functioning of even the healthiest of adults. Still wondering what energy drinks do to your body?

As soon as you consume caffeine, within ten minutes it enters your bloodstream and triggers your heart rate and blood pressure level and they start rising. For the next 15 to 20 minutes, the caffeine level starts increasing and the individual starts experiencing acute alertness and concentration. In the next half an hour or so, the entire caffeine dissolves into your bloodstream and the liver responds to it by soaking up sugar.

It will only take you an hour or more before caffeine’s effects start to settle in. An average body takes 5 to 6 hours to use up 50% of the caffeine that is now in your veins. If you are pregnant, or have taken any drugs, or if your liver is not functioning optimally, it will take longer for your body to process the excess caffeine from the energy drink. When it comes to teenagers and children, the elimination process slows down and ends up causing behavioral and anxiety problems in children.

The dangers that come with energy drinks are numerous and include:

  • People with heart disease or other cardiovascular problems can suffer cardiac arrest because of the excess caffeine in energy drinks.
  • Headaches and migraines are synonymous with energy drinks and the intensity worsens if you consume them on a daily basis.
  • Whilst energy drinks are known for heightening your senses and making you alert, what energy drinks do in reality is if you drink them excessively, it can cause insomnia.
  • Energy drinks are addictive. They contain sugar and caffeine, a lethal combo, and in no time you will be hooked to the delicious flavor and the energizing effects you experience after downing a bottle.
  • Energy drinks can clash with your prescribed depression drugs and render them void, for all you know.
  • And lastly, what energy drinks do is they cause you to be high on caffeine. In this state, you are unable to think straight and might end up hurting yourself or others by acting rashly.
