Stress is a silent killer that not only wreaks havoc on your physical health but mental health as well. Stress is your body’s natural reaction to negative thoughts and events that make you feel threatened or in danger. Unfortunately, prolonged stress can cause a number of illnesses. Here are the top signs you are under too much stress:

Absentmindedness
With major work and responsibilities looming around your head, it can be difficult for you to keep track of things. If you find yourself at a point where you cannot remember where you put your wallet or are constantly forgetting appointments, perhaps you are under too much stress

Mood Swings
All of a sudden, you have started to bicker too much with your best friend and find it hard to sit in a friendly gathering without passing rude remarks. Perhaps it is too much stress that is affecting your mood and causing changes in your behavior.

Overly Emotional
Too much stress causes emotional outbreaks, causing you to burst into tears over incidents you would normally consider as crying over spilt milk. The next time you fly into a rage when somebody bumps into you on the subway, consider the possibility that you are under too much stress.

Chronic Head and Body Ache
When you are under too much stress, your body automatically switches to survival mode, causing you to become hyper. This fatigue puts physical strain on your body. This may result in chronic head and body ache but that is nothing a good head massage cannot solve.

Loss of Focus
All of a sudden, it becomes harder for you to concentrate on the words on the screen, no matter how hard you try. You start daydreaming. Stress makes it harder for people to concentrate. This also hinders your ability to make decisions as you find yourself neglecting important tasks and procrastinating more than usual.

Social Isolation
Excess stress can lead you to withdraw from others. Ask yourself, when was the last time you invited a friend over or spent the weekend with your family? If you spend an awful lot of time coming up with excuses to avoid people, perhaps you are just too stressed. Though solitude has its benefits, it is imperative you seek support from the people you love who can help you through this difficult time.

Social isolation is not the answer to dealing with stress. Talking to your loved ones is known to reduce feelings of stress and anxieties, and hence do not be afraid to turn to friends, family and professional help for stress relief.

Sleep Problems
Getting a good night’s sleep is integral to living a healthy and happy life. However, getting quality sleep can become a problem when stress starts to swirl beyond your control. Sleep helps the body recharge so you can tackle the responsibilities of your day, but if you are tired and lack energy, you are bound to make mistakes at work or at school. Exercise three or five times a day to combat stress. In addition, try getting some shuteye in a cool and quiet room to help you sleep better.
